Ford has revealed it will strike a low-CO2 blow against its volume rivals by launching a sub-120g/km Mondeo in February.
At present, only prestige brands Audi and BMW, as well as VW’s Passat, which is due for imminent replacement, are able to offer upper medium models in diesel’s lowest benefit-in-kind tax band of 13%, but Ford will join that group when the 1.6-litre 115hp diesel arrives in the UK early next year.
Although figures haven’t been revealed, a Ford spokesperson said that 110-120g/km is the target. It won’t be badged Econetic, with Ford electing not to use its green branding on larger cars. It will, though, feature start-stop, an aerodynamic grille and regenerative braking to increase efficiency.
